Crime…………
First……….Organized crime(oc) supplies illegal goods and services that are in great demand! For that reason oc fills a need and that leads to it’s existence. Organized crime fills a vacuum left by legitimate entrepreneurs. If victimless crimes were decriminalized oc would be left with products and services that could easily and cheaply supplied by legitimate sources.
Second…oc thrives on corruption on police and government officials for survival and continued profitability. Bribery, campaign contributions, delivery of votes from lobbyist etc…. are used to influence police, city counsels and legislators to look the other way.
One of the most important characteristics of oc is its use of violence to enforce conformity within the organization. There are strict rules for conduct and means of enforcing those rules. Individuals who cheat or fail to meet their obligations are disciplined severely, violence is used to eliminate competition. When rival organizations vie for distribution of a particular service or product the struggle is often extremely violent.
Should we legalize drugs, prostitution…. Etc? wtf?
