Our nation's leaders and government programs desperately need to be purged. The answers aren't difficult and the effort to get us back on our feet and out of debt won't be that hard either, if we'll just do it. Not everyone will agree, obviously. The wealthy and those mooching off of tax-payer monies will be the loudest opposing cries. Maybe I'm just being old fashioned, but it seems to be common sense. I feel like venting. If you're completely bored and want to spend about 5 minutes reading some simple suggestions to "repair" our country, read on.

Concerning Congerss and national leaders - those who have been there longer than two terms should be made to resign, and no one can serve longer than two terms from now on. Give Washington DC a brand new start. Get them out and let others have the blessing of serving. No more checks or pension or kick-backs after leaving office. If you're not serving, you don't get paid. Like the military, whatever you were doing as an occupation before you take office, by law, will give you back your job at the end of your term. If you own your own business, make sure someone can run it well while you're gone. All those coming into office cannot take ANY type of monies or favors from anyone or any entity other than their FAIR government salary (below six figure) that includes expenses to go back and forth to Washington from their home state. Nothing extra. Congress and leaders are public servants. Not lifelong monarches who share power.

Concerning federal law - let the states govern themselves as much as possible. As our founding fathers understood, the less (federal) government the better. As for the ever-lingering "moral Issues" in every political compaign - we will never legislate morality so quit being stupid. Those who want to do something bad enough will find a way to do it. So quit trying to make laws for or against it. Let it go - both sides - and do as the Constitution says - pursue happiness, as long as it doesn't infringe upon the rights, welfare, or livelyhood of other citizens. If it's unhealthy or dangerous, those who want it badly enough will still get it regardless of our laws.
Concerning Foreign Policies - we're not giving other countries any more money until we can afford it because we're broke. They need to figure out how to get their economy back on its feet like we have to. We can help each other around the globe in several ways, and we should. But we're not going into more debt, or give what we don't have, so their economy can flourish while ours flushes down the toilet. Quit being stupid.

Concerning the Welfare system and Entitlement programs - I think these should NOT be terminated. We have to help each other. We're all connected and in this together. These can be good programs. But like Washington, these programs are in desperate need of purging and reconstruction. We need to bring back programs like the WPA. If you need assistance, we'll gladly find you work. If you don't work, you don't get a check. Let's find jobs for everyone. Even if it's mowing grass, or picking up highway trash, or cleaning, doing paperwork, data entry, working via internet remotely, etc. There is always something we can do to earn our pay. If you're drawing a welfare or assistance check, you're going to be given a job. If you don't want to work, that's fine. You don't have to. It won't be a law that you have to work. But if you don't work, you're not getting a free check. Don't immediately think you can give the excuse that you can't work. There are people who are blind, paralized, even from the neck down, who contribute to society by using modern technology. Those who are mentally or physically challenged are some of the nation's best workers. Rarely do you hear them whine about not wanting to work. They take pride in a job well done. There are very few exceptions to not being able to work. 99% of us can do something. The elderly who are ill and cannot care for themselves are among those few exceptions because we need to care for those who have paid their dues to our country and for us. If you have children, then daycare can be provided for you, regardless of how many children you have. Or, this can be your job in the program to provide daycare for others. All these things will create more jobs instantly. By doing this, we can have an all-time low for our unemployment rate in the nation. This is something we can be proud of.

Concerning Taxes - there should be a flat tax, across the board. Either everyone pays the same percentage based on their income - say 20% - or everyone pays the same flat tax placed on all purchased items; or both. If you buy something - anything - you pay the same flat tax on it whether you're rich or poor, business or private, farmer or consumer, young or old. No exceptions or exemptions.

Concerning Immigration - If you want to come to this country, you are always welcome. We are Diversity Incarnate. We're the Melting Pot. We have been for centuries. But pay taxes like the rest of us. It's not that hard. You're not getting anything else for free and living off the tax-payers money if you're not going to contribute to the tax pool that pays for it. We're not setting you up in new businesses or giving you money or tax breaks to start one. No more free health care or free food either. If you're going to be protected by and benefit from the same rights of citizenship as the rest of us, then you can be taxed like the rest of us, too. We're already catering to your languages by changing every sign, menu, and public education materials. Give back to those who give to you. It's really simple.

Concerning Energy/Oil - they should all be taxed as equally as every citizen. Refer to flat tax proposal. Their products should also be regulated in sales. Grocery stores can't charge $150 for a gallon of milk simply because they want to or because they know people need it. Government regulates that. The same should be true for the oil/energy sector. They have screwed us for far too long. I believe in capitalism and being able to become wealthy by working for it. What I don't believe in is the energy corporations making hundreds or thousands percent profit on products made at a small fraction of that price simlply because they decide to raise prices or someone speculates the price will go up. How can anyone make billions of dollars in PROFIT per month and still pay less than 1% in taxes while our country is going trillions of dollars in debt. That's ridiculous. We have other energy sources, too. Let's fix this system and use our heads as well as other sources.

Concerning Corporations - the best way to keep jobs and factories in our country is to provide less expensive labor. Maybe these will be the jobs we give the WPA / government program workers. It will create more jobs instantly and still provide companies with workers, materials and ability to profit and grow. If companies take their factories out of the country, then they will be taxed heavily when bringing those products back to our country, but the prices of those products cannot be increased because of import taxes. Since our government officials can no longer take monies or favors from these corporations, they can't bribe their way into tax breaks, loopholes, or under-the-table deals.

Concerning "war on drugs" - we better take a more common sense look at what government and law enforcement have labeled as a "war on drugs." Why is it the longest running "war" in our nation's history and yet no one is calling for an end to it? Answer: because too much money is being pocketed by law enforcement, attorneys, judges, rehab programs, pharmacies, government officials, and the penal system. The biggest "war" on drugs is fought in hospitals, homes, and individuals with addictions from "legal" alcohol and tobacco use, not with street drug dealers. These two "legal" drugs kill more each year than the VietNam war and cost us billions in insurance premiums. If you say you want to fight drugs, then fight all of them. Otherwise shut up and give people access to them. Keep the same DUI and public intox laws. Tax and regulate them like alcohol and tobacco. Only sell them at licensed or approved places. This way maybe law enforcement can actually arrest real criminals and keep the citizens safer, instead of wasting so much time and tax-payer money trying to bust someone with a bag of pot.

Concerning public education - we're requiring more and more from our educators but not rewarding them like other respected professionals. Instead, we pay them like thrid-world country sweat shop workers. Teachers will be paid as much as their administration because they're the ones on the front lines and making the difference while training our children. We may not be able to change the fact that some professionals make ridiculous amounts of money and not worth what they make, but without teachers no one would be professionals. We should also start teaching our children how to be productive citizens, rather than forcing the latest anti-religious, sexual orientation, ethnic, political, or constantly-changing scientific agenda down their throats. We're trying to shove a ton of data and information in their heads, but we still graduate them from high school barely able to read or spell, and only a small percentage are able to contribute to a satisfactory level in the workplace. If we want our nation to be competative internationally, then we need to teach them how to be productive; not how to pass tests or get the same scores as students in China who have different cultural values. Let's use our common sense and produce a posterity who will carry the torch of a great nation, not kids who are filled will useless information and don't know how to thrive productively. This is not communism, or fascism, or capitalism, or whatever "ism" you want to label it. It's common freaking sense.

We're all in the same boat. It's "We," not "Me." As Martin Luther King, Jr. so rightly said, "if we don't start learning to live together as brothers, we will surely die together as fools." It's time to work toward the common goal of a great nation for ALL of us, and quit being selfishly narrow-minded.

If life has a soundtrack, mine has changed over time.  My early years were probably filled with sad, EMO songs, psychedelic drug songs, U2 ("and you give yourself away, and you give yourself away), broken heart songs, etc. 

When I was ready for change, the soundtrack changed.  I went from being an angry perpetrator/victim to being.. well just angry.  I felt wronged.  I felt cheated.  I also heard the song "Stop Whispering" by Radiohead. 

And this song is me.  In  a nutshell.  I felt it perfectly fit my whole existence up to that point.  The wise men (educators, parents, adults) said they didn't want to hear my voice.  They curse me and won't let me be.  And I'm powerless to stop it.  And yes, mother will spit on her daughter some more.  And everyone else will spit on me some more.    And yes, I have a complaint.  But no one's interested in it. 

BUT

I had to stop whispering.  And start shouting. I discovered, with the help of my therapist, that I did indeed have a voice.  I had things worth hearing.  My opinion mattered.  My feelings mattered. I mattered.Shout from the rooftops, shout from the hills.  I am woman, hear me roar.

Stop whispering.  Start shouting.

I used to listen to this song every day.  Like literally,every day.  And you know me, I'm a Floyd girl.  But this song...this song.

So I stopped whispering.  And I started shouting.

And now  - things have changed. I still love the song, occasionally it's a good reminder of who I want to be.  But it's no longer a fitting anthem.  As I move on to the Next Stage, my soundtrack has changed again.

So I'm in the market for a new anthem.  I need a new song that defines where I am right now.  Well not "defines", that's not right.  More accurately, i need the new song that's playing in the background while life cuts to a montage of me doing me things.  Like going to school, hanging with Tova, preparing for married life.

I've stopped whispering.  I've started shouting.  Been there, done that.

Your voting rights are under attack – by Mitt Romney and the national Republicans.

Mitt Romney doesn’t want Gov. Gary Johnson on the ballot.  It’s just that simple.

Clearly, the idea of giving voters a chance in November to vote for a presidential candidate who is serious about cutting spending, repealing the Patriot Act, ending the wars, and standing up for individual liberties is scaring the Republicans – and perhaps it should.

But rather than have a debate on these issues with Governor Johnson, the Republicans are trying to silence him.  In elections offices and courts across the country, Republican operatives and lawyers are trying to remove  Governor Johnson’s name from the ballot before the voters ever get a chance to cast their vote.  Fending off these attacks is difficult, it is unfair…..and expensive.

In Virginia, one of the most difficult states in the nation to qualify for the ballot, our supporters worked long and hard to submit thousands of signatures, and election officials approved them – something not even Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich accomplished.  Nevertheless, a few days ago, the Republican Party challenged our petitions and forced us to devote precious resources to simply keeping Gov. The same tactics are being used against Gov. Johnson in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Oklahoma, Michigan and elsewhere.  The story is the same.  Republican Party representatives and their lawyers are bringing frivolous challenges to our ballot qualifications – and making us spend our money to defend the rights of voters to support Gov. Johnson if they wish.  And they just happen to be doing so in key states where polls show Gov. Johnson gaining ground. 

Gov. Johnson needs your support to keep up the fight.

So far, we are winning these battles.  Just yesterday, an Iowa court rejected the Republicans’ challenge.  We prevailed in Virginia.  And in the past couple of days, Gov. Johnson has been placed on the ballot in both New Hampshire and Hawaii.  In all, we have qualified for the ballot in 43 states, and are committed to doing so in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. 

But the fight is just beginning.  Right now, we are having to go to court in Michigan and Oklahoma, and we have heard from Republican operatives that they fully intend to try to remove Gov. Johnson from the ballot wherever they can.

So, here is what we have to do:  Based on our experience so far, we know that it will cost at least $100,000 just to fend off these frivolous ballot challenges – and that is money we HAVE to spend.  With only a month or so remaining before ballots have to be printed, we must have those funds available NOW.  Please go to www.garyjohnson2012.com and contribute whatever amount you can to make sure we can keep up the fight.  Every dollar counts.

But rather than have a debate on these issues with Governor Johnson, the Republicans are trying to silence him.  In elections offices and courts across the country, Republican operatives and lawyers are trying to remove  Governor Johnson’s name from the ballot before the voters ever get a chance to cast their vote.  Fending off these attacks is difficult, it is unfair…..and expensive.

In Virginia, one of the most difficult states in the nation to qualify for the ballot, our supporters worked long and hard to submit thousands of signatures, and election officials approved them – something not even Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich accomplished.  Nevertheless, a few days ago, the Republican Party challenged our petitions and forced us to devote precious resources to simply keeping Gov. Johnson on the ballot.  We succeeded, as you can read here: Gary Johnson Makes Virginia Ballot.  But it took a lot of time and money that could be used to buy radio and TV ads.

The same tactics are being used against Gov. Johnson in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Oklahoma, Michigan and elsewhere.  The story is the same.  Republican Party representatives and their lawyers are bringing frivolous challenges to our ballot qualifications – and making us spend our money to defend the rights of voters to support Gov. Johnson if they wish.  And they just happen to be doing so in key states where polls show Gov. Johnson gaining ground.

So far, we are winning these battles.  Just yesterday, an Iowa court rejected the Republicans’ challenge.  We prevailed in Virginia.  And in the past couple of days, Gov. Johnson has been placed on the ballot in both New Hampshire and Hawaii.  In all, we have qualified for the ballot in 43 states, and are committed to doing so in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. 

But the fight is just beginning.  Right now, we are having to go to court in Michigan and Oklahoma, and we have heard from Republican operatives that they fully intend to try to remove Gov. Johnson from the ballot wherever they can.

China has a poor human rights and environmental record, and its strategy of flooding the global market with subsidised goods could be found to be too aggressive. But the right response to this is not tariffs, it is investment. While China, the EU, and the US all funnel billions into Big Coal and Oil to destroy our planet, China is also providing huge loans and subsidies to the solar industry. And that's exactly what other governments have failed to do.

Following the bankruptcy of a handful of US and EU solar manufacturers, some lobbyists are pushing politicians to blame China, instead of their own insufficient and inappropriate subsidies. Some claim that domestic jobs are threatened by low cost Chinese panels, but the truth is the opposite -- experts predict that tariffs could cost 60,000 jobs in the US alone. The vast majority of jobs in the solar sector outside of China are in installing and servicing panels, not manufacturing them, so cheaper panels now means more work, and more jobs. And less climate change.

The EU trade Commissioner initiated the investigation into tariffs today and the US ITC proceedings are about to kick off. Written statements to both must be submitted in days to be considered. We're in a race against the clock to green our economies and prevent catastrophic climate change, and Chinese success in green tech could be the perfect catalyst for the rest of the world to scale up the technology and sustainably bring down prices. It's good to be the king – err, democratically elected president of Russia. And perhaps that's one of the reasons Vladimir Putin seems so committed to staying in office. Russia's strongman is reported to have become quite wealthy during his career as a government employee. Indeed, few private fortunes could stretch to the luxuries of his current gig (one he's held longer than Boris Yeltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev combined).
Russian opposition members have released a report –The Life of a Galley Slave – detailing alleged excesses of the Russian presidency. Why "galley slave"? Because that's how Putin once described himself. What he forgot to mention is that being president of Russia also seems to be a lot like being the love child of Hosni Mubarak and Imelda Marcos.
Here are the top five items from the report:
1) President Putin has access to more than 20 "homes". Of the list of estates – which reads like a mise en scene for Anna Karenina – the loveliest may be the Constantine Palace, or Strelna, outside St Petersburg. Envisioned by Peter the Great and long presided over by the Romanovs, Putin had Strelna renovated after assuming the presidency.

(Add to that a few more palaces and a ski lodge. One mustn't be without a choice of summer and winter residences. Average monthly salary of Russians? About $736.)
2) Putin also has access to about 43 private jets and 15 helicopters. Of the whole billion-dollar-plus fleet, the gem may be the Ilyushin II-96, which features artisanal craft work from the town of Sergiev Posad:

3) There's also four luxury yachts, including a 177-foot Sirius superyacht with six VIP cabins and a deck-top jacuzzi for six. The $100m-plus fleet costs an estimated one-tenth of its worth a year in maintenance.

4) Cars? The report estimates that a fleet of around 700 are available to the president's office and his retinue. Mercedes are a clear favorite – such as the armoured Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard Pullman and Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen.

5) Whether traveling by air, land or sea, it's always important for a head of state to be on time. Putin's got that covered too. Pics of the president's wrists shows at least 11 top-notch watches worth about $687,000. As a generous public servant, Putin has regally offered at least two Blancpains from his wrist to unsuspecting citizens.
