“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.” ― Isaac Asimov

“Too many people spend money they earned..to buy things they don’t want..to impress people that they don’t like.” ― Will Rogers

“If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it.”  Frank Zappa

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.” Paulo Coelho

True Anarchism

Humanities great spiritual leaders all share the gift of giving; never expecting the greatest of giving would fill humanities spiritual void of apathy, indifference and selfish cruelty...and the one gift to combat spiritual suicide is to never expect reciprocation nor recognition.

Those who commit  random acts of kindness so as to impress others. Those who would take note of an unselfish gesture only to be noticed have really damaged their soul doubly. Sort of like the guy that prays just a little too loud behind me in church....nice prayers, but that is between him and God; not everyone within the west wing whom also have business with the creator feel the need to share so loudly or so publicly, some of us like to keep private mine and Gods secretes.

One of my favorite prayers is quite simple, the foxhole prayer: Oh shit! help me God!! works good, effective, I am still here, with grace and dignity and some soiled underwear

This shift to a new reality is difficult to be altruistically sincere unless the behavior becomes habit..then easy and enlightening for them that do care and are willing to step out side social convention's comfort zone (conformity) and experience consciousnesses from a perspective void of religious doctrinal interpretation that moor the ignorant to superstitions that would otherwise have been abandoned long ago in search of saner waters.  None of us have to do anything extraordinary to be noticed for good deeds, only consistent and sincere.

Do the right thing when no one else is looking....the universe is watching, telling the truth is me against the cosmos, the infinite justice sees all, remembers all:  forgets nothing.

The war on whistleblowers and journalism

Discussing press freedoms with Julian Assange, David Coombs, Alexa O'Brien and others

theguardian.com

I'm working on several stories, so posting this week will be difficult. Until then, below is the video of the 90-minute event I did this week at the Sydney Opera House on the war on whistleblowers and journalism, along with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning's lawyer David Coombs, the intrepid independent journalist Alexa O'Brien, and the Australian commentator Robert Manne, hosted by the Australian writer Bernard Keane. It was a great discussion and really covered in a broad way many of the issues discussed here over the last year, especially the last several months (I dropped out for roughly 25 minutes after I first spoke due to some technical difficulties with the video feed but returned to participate actively in the rest of the discussion).
Two related notes: 1) John Cusack has an excellent Op-Ed in the Guardian from yesterday on many of these same topics; 2) Mark Weisbrot has a helpful analysis of the fallout from the extraordinary cancellation by Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff of the state dinner planned at the White House for October due to NSA surveillance, and McClatchy has good background on what happened there and why.

Why Many Former East Germans Don't Vote

09/19/2013 | By Friederike Heine
Why Many Former East Germans Don't Vote
Nearly a quarter of a century after German reunification, Chancellor Angela Merkel still favors dishes that were common in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). "Solyanka," a sour soup with meat and pickled vegetables originating in Russia, still appears regularly on her dinner table, and likely those of many former East Germans. more...

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. ‘Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter. 'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you. ‘No problem, just let me in,' says the man. ‘Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.

‘Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the senator. ‘I’m sorry, but we have our rules. ‘And with that, St.Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator raises...The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. ‘Now it's time to visit heaven. ‘So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. ‘Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity. ‘The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.

‘So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.

'I don't understand,' stammers the senator. 'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.

 What happened?

‘The devil looks at him, smiles and says, 'Yesterday we were campaigning....Today you voted.'

ANARCHY.

Ever reviled, accursed, ne'er understood,
Thou art the grisly terror of our age.
"Wreck of all order," cry the multitude,
"Art thou, and war and murder's endless rage."
O, let them cry. To them that ne'er have striven
The truth that lies behind a word to find,
To them the word's right meaning was not given.
They shall continue blind among the blind.
But thou, O word, so clear, so strong, so pure,
Thou sayest all which I for goal have taken.
I give thee to the future! Thine secure
When each at least unto himself shall waken.
Comes it in sunshine? In the tempest's thrill?
I cannot tell--but it the earth shall see!
I am an Anarchist! Wherefore I will
Not rule, and also ruled I will not be!

JOHN HENRY MACKAY.

THE history of human growth and development is at the same time the history of the terrible struggle of every new idea heralding the approach of a brighter dawn. In its tenacious hold on tradition, the Old has never hesitated to make use of the foulest and cruelest means to stay the advent of the New, in whatever form or period the latter may have asserted itself. Nor need we retrace our steps into the distant past to realize the enormity of opposition, difficulties, and hardships placed in the path of every progressive idea. The rack, the thumbscrew, and the knout are still with us; so are the convict's garb and the social wrath, all conspiring against the spirit that is serenely marching on.

Anarchism could not hope to escape the fate of all other ideas of innovation. Indeed, as the most revolutionary and uncompromising innovator, Anarchism must needs meet with the combined ignorance and venom of the world it aims to reconstruct.

To deal even remotely with all that is being said and done against Anarchism would necessitate the writing of a whole volume. I shall therefore meet only two of the principal objections. In so doing, I shall attempt to elucidate what Anarchism really stands for.

The strange phenomenon of the opposition to Anarchism is that it brings to light the relation between so-called intelligence and ignorance. And yet this is not so very strange when we consider the relativity of all things. The ignorant mass has in its favor that it makes no pretense of knowledge or tolerance. Acting, as it always does, by mere impulse, its reasons are like those of a child. "Why?" "Because." Yet the opposition of the uneducated to Anarchism deserves the same consideration as that of the intelligent man.

What, then, are the objections? First, Anarchism is impractical, though a beautiful ideal. Second, Anarchism stands for violence and destruction, hence it must be repudiated as vile and dangerous. Both the intelligent man and the ignorant mass judge not from a thorough knowledge of the subject, but either from hearsay or false interpretation.

Humans shit where they eat and eat what they shit......

Neighbor, n. One whom we are commanded to love as ourselves, and who does all he knows how to make us disobedient.

ME, verb

Opposition, n. In politics the party that prevents the Government from running amok by hamstringing it.......... Ambrose Bierce

Most days I fight, others I try and unite.............mostly I search for what is right, for me.  The thing i wonder most about is 'where did all this public trust' come from?  Given the track record why would any believe anything? Certain that this false sense of security is the direct result of conditioning (brainwash). When facts are counter to general consensus... then truth is ignored to fit a preconceived notion that has been embedded into the public education apparatus.

Like the public service announcement says:  Your living room is the the factory and the product being produced is YOU!  The classroom is now the newest or oldest roadblock that prevents new and novel thinking to be produced and reinforced.  Society now minds minds for certain attributes that foists a template for that specific mental resource.  Mostly what I see now is the production of psychopathic narcissistic life forms that benefit little the collective......a generation of pawns to be used as minions to enhance the ultra-selfish megalomaniacs of 'privilege'....... obedient SLAVES is what we allowed our selves to become and [they] are and have perfected to now produce mental machines stripped of individuality.  Conformity is the rule of the day.

Conformity of the mediocre mind as Einstein would say.........now a generation of idiots are on deck to manage the affairs of the public at large.  Humanity would be much farther along if not for the dogma of superstition.  But that superstition is what keeps the public in check and the dark.  Allowing for the ptb to manipulate the masses.  Most other, if not all, species fiercely protect the habitat charged with sustaining the organism. Humans? They shit where they eat and eat what they shit......the current path mankind is on can only lead to extinction.  so be it, I get to keep on keeping on, I have the power of the universe both known and unknown, it's always been there, where i came and where i will go.............................?

Liberty and democracy are eternal enemies, and every one knows it who has ever given any sober reflection to the matter. A democratic state may profess to venerate the name, and even pass laws making it officially sacred, but it simply cannot tolerate the thing. In order to keep any coherence in the governmental process, to prevent the wildest anarchy in thought and act, the government must put limits upon the free play of opinion. In part, it can reach that end by mere propaganda, by the bald force of its authority — that is, by making certain doctrines officially infamous. But in part it must resort to force, i.e., to law. One of the main purposes of laws in a democratic society is to put burdens upon intelligence and reduce it to impotence. Ostensibly, their aim is to penalize anti-social acts; actually their aim is to penalize heretical opinions. At least ninety-five Americans out of every 100 believe that this process is honest and even laudable; it is practically impossible to convince them that there is anything evil in it. In other words, they cannot grasp the concept of liberty. Always they condition it with the doctrine that the state, i.e., the majority, has a sort of right of eminent domain in acts, and even in ideas — that it is perfectly free, whenever it is so disposed, to forbid a man to say what he honestly believes. Whenever his notions show signs of becoming "dangerous," ie, of being heard and attended to, it exercises that prerogative. And the overwhelming majority of citizens believe in supporting it in the outrage. Including especially the Liberals, who pretend — and often quite honestly believe — that they are hot for liberty. They never really are. Deep down in their hearts they know, as good democrats, that liberty would be fatal to democracy — that a government based upon shifting and irrational opinion must keep it within bounds or run a constant risk of disaster. They themselves, as a practical matter, advocate only certain narrow kinds of liberty — liberty, that is, for the persons they happen to favor. The rights of other persons do not seem to interest them. If a law were passed tomorrow taking away the property of a large group of presumably well-to-do persons — say, bondholders of the railroads — without compensation and without even colorable reason, they would not oppose it; they would be in favor of it. The liberty to have and hold property is not one they recognize. They believe only in the liberty to envy, hate and loot the man who has it. H.L. Mencken
"Liberty and Democracy" in the Baltimore Evening Sun (13 April 1925), also in A Second Mencken Chrestomathy : New Selections from the Writings of America's Legendary Editor, Critic, and Wit (1994) edited by Terry Teachout, p. 35

Breaking news: Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is working on a hawkish bill that would torpedo President Obama's interim agreement with Iran by setting unrealistic goals for the final deal.

Just how bad is the bill? "It would blow things apart. If you want a war, that is the thing to do." That's how a Democratic senator summarized a recent, similar proposal.

And this isn't a fringe bill either—it's gaining ground among Democratic members of the House—and if we do nothing it will become bipartisan.

Congress is debating this bill in the next few days. This a crisis for diplomacy. If even just the House of Representatives passes this bill, it tells the Iranian people that America isn't serious about diplomacy—and even if President Obama vetoes it, the damage is done.

That's why I created an urgent petition on MoveOn.org, telling the House of Representatives to back President Obama's diplomatic approach to Iran.

Click here to sign the petition to demand diplomacy, not the march to war—and then pass it on to your friends.

Remember when MoveOn members and allies banded together to stop military action from becoming a reality with Syria, after war seemed inevitable? We won! It was so inspiring.

That's one big reason that I've been campaigning on MoveOn.org for a while now to help to pave the way for diplomacy. We know from our past efforts that diplomacy can work as an alternative to war and violence.

But if Eric Cantor and his war-hawk colleagues succeed this week, Congress will tie President Obama's hands, destroy negotiations, and edge us closer to another senseless conflict in the Middle East.

As you read this message, we have a once-in-a-generation chance to not just fight back against a potential conflict, but to proactively build peace and diplomacy in the Middle East. But it's up to us: You and me.

Our chance really could slip away in the next week—since Congress is about shatter the deal with Iran unless there's a massive outcry. And how hard we fight to stop Congress from torpedoing Obama's diplomatic efforts in the next week could ultimately determine whether or not we go to war again in the Middle East.

Sign the petition now, and I'll tell you how we can fight hard next week to save diplomacy.

The interim deal with Iran is a win for everyone—Iran has agreed to opening itself up to the potential of daily inspections and in turn the U.S. has offered some relief from sanctions. That's why 64% of the American public, 100 rabbis, and leading military and national security experts support the president's diplomatic path with Iran.

Diplomacy with Iran is the best way for us to support change-makers in Iran and it's in America's national interest.

Thanks for your support.

I just reviewed cherokee history via Wikipedia...........this is total bullshit------what really happened (short version)

Migration?  Make us think the cherokee volunteered> ahem   but forced by soldiers on horseback REMOVED stripped of all belongings in the fucking dead of winter and made to stay in concentration camps (the prez andrew jackson defied the supreme court) and stole land that did not belong to the whites  (sorry to tell you, but the government are thieves even to this day).  Prime tobacco land, the cwy would/did refuse to be slaves so those that did not have title according to a white mans title to ancestral land......hey fuck the jews we want our shit back too................ were made to be slaves.....indians made poor slaves so they killed most that did not go west to fight other tribes just to survive........and that is just a brief synopsis of the atrocities, will not go into the rape and murder.........nor those that where forced marched in the dead of winter,  more than half died just getting to oklahoma, custer deserved everything he received...............my regret is that no one, to this day, has taken responsibility,  of course if such a thing would have happened in Europa without documenting the trauma to those people,  now that would be a sin, that incident would be in the history books..... here nothing,  most of my people have no idea how the cwy arrived here.........resistance is futile you will be assimilated...............me? I gotta a grudge.   a member of the keetoowah band, we are fire starters and keepers of the fire that will never be quenched, fucking ever.  kosmicdebris..............keep fighting the good fight, with your mind as the weapon!!...........
