The way we see things is constantly changing. At the moment the way we see things has been left a lot to the camera. That shouldn't necessarily be. --David Hockney

Bridging The Spiritual and Mundane
by Bhikkhu Bodhi
As I now look at our situation, I distinguish three major domains in which human life participates. One I call the transcendent domain, which is the sphere of aspiration for classical contemplative spirituality. The second is the social domain, which includes our interpersonal relations as well as our political, social, and economic institutions. And the third is the natural domain, which includes our physical bodies, other sentient beings, and the natural environment.

From my present perspective, a spirituality that privileges the transcendent and devalues the social and natural domains, or sees them at best as stepping stones to realization, is inadequate to our current needs. Such an orientation has led to a sharp division of duties that puts our future at risk. On the one hand, the pursuits of contemplative spirituality fall to the “spiritual virtuosos,” the
contemplatives, mystics, and yogis, who aspire to transcend the world and express their compassion simply by guiding others to the heights they themselves have reached. On the other, the steering wheel of humanity’s future is placed solely in the hands of politicians, development experts, technocrats, and corporate magnates, who are usually driven by personal ambition, misplaced pragmatism, and the tunnel vision of technical expertise. This division also opens the doors of influence over our communal institutions to religious dogmatists and fundamentalists.

As I see it, our collective future requires that we fashion an integral type of spirituality that can bridge the three domains of human life. This would entail embarking on a new trajectory. The spiritual quest, from ancient times to the present, has primarily moved along an ascending track: one that leads from darkness to light, from the conditioned to the unconditioned, from mortality to the deathless. Our task today, in my understanding, is to complement the ascending spiritual movement with a descending movement, a gesture of love and grace flowing down from the heights of realization into the valleys of our ordinary lives.

While neither can be neglected, the storms of crisis gathering on our future horizon oblige us to give special attention to the descending movement. Under the impetus of love, we must bring the light and wisdom gained from the transcendent domain back into the world in order to transform and redeem the social and natural domains. More concretely, this entails that in the social domain we must strive for modes of governance embodying justice, equity, and compassion. Social and economic policies must be rooted in the conviction that all human beings are entitled to live in peace, with sufficient access to food, water, medical care, and housing, and opportunities to fulfill their potentials. In the natural domain we must learn to look at the universe with wonder, awe, and reverence, treat other living beings with care and kindness, and ensure that nature preserves its self-regenerating capacities.

In short, the challenge facing us is to ensure that the world works for everyone, including nature itself. We have no better guidance in meeting this challenge than our spiritual traditions, but we must draw out from them their potentials for transforming our relationship to other people and the natural environment. The task ahead will by no means be an easy one, for we can expect staunch resistance from those who profit by preserving and extending the status quo. With the right combination of skills, however, I believe we will be able to prevail.

In my view, what we must do to achieve our goal is to bring together the wisdom of humanity’s spiritual heritage with the prophetic passion of the social activist. It is only when the two are united—when wisdom and love inspire and drive social conscience, and when social conscience draws its guidelines from timeless sources of truth—that we can shape our institutions and policies in the ways necessary to continue the human adventure on this fragile but beautiful planet.

Guru Purnima Celebrations 2013

The following is a message from His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on the significance of Guru Purnima.
“Among the 12-13 full moons in a year the vaishakha full moon is dedicated to Buddha (his birth and enlightenment), jyeshtha full moon to mother earth and the aashadha full moon is dedicated to the memory of masters. This is Guru Purnima.
It is the day when the disciple wakes up in his fullness and in the wakefulness he can’t be but grateful. This gratitude is not of dwaita (you and me), but of advaita. It is not a river moving from somewhere to somewhere, but is the ocean moving within itself. So, gratefulness on Guru Purnima symbolizes that fullness.
The purpose of the Guru Purnima celebration is to turn back and review and see in this last one year how much one has progressed in life. For a seeker, Guru Purnima is a day of significance. It is the day to review one’s progress on the spiritual path and renew one’s determination and focus on the goal. As the full moon rises and sets, tears of gratitude arise and repose into the vastness of one’s own self.”

Piaget's theory of cognitive development
Jean Piaget was a Swiss theorist who posited that children learn by actively constructing knowledge through hands-on experience. He suggested that the adult's role in helping the child learn was to provide appropriate materials for the child to interact and construct. He would use *Socratic questioning to get the children to reflect on what they were doing, and he would try to get them to see contradictions in their explanations.

Piaget believed that intellectual development took place through a series of stages which he described in his theory on cognitive development. Each stage consists of steps which the child has to master before moving on to the next step. He believed that these stages are not separate from one another but rather that each stage builds on the previous one, hence learning was continuous. His theory consisted of four stages; sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Though he did not believe these stages occurred at any given age, many studies have determined when these cognitive abilities should take place.

*Socratic questioning is disciplined questioning that can be used to pursue thought in many directions and for many purposes, including: to explore complex ideas, to get to the truth of things, to open up issues and problems, to uncover assumptions, to analyze concepts, to distinguish what we know from what we don't know, to follow out logical implications of thought, or to control the discussion. The key to distinguishing Socratic questioning from questioning per se is that Socratic questioning is systematic, disciplined, and deep, and usually focuses on fundamental concepts, principles, theories, issues, or problems.

Socratic questioning is referred to in teaching, and has gained currency as a concept in education particularly in the past two decades. Teachers, students, or indeed anyone interested in probing thinking at a deep level can and should construct Socratic questions and engage in these questions.

*A dissident, broadly defined, is a person who actively challenges an established doctrine, policy, or institution.

*In modern psychology, cognitive dissonance is the discomfort experienced when simultaneously holding two or more conflicting cognitions: ideas, beliefs, values or emotional reactions. In a state of dissonance, people may sometimes feel "disequilibrium": frustration, hunger, dread, guilt, anger, embarrassment, anxiety, etc.

Dear Friend,
Extreme energy production—from mountaintop removal coal mining to reckless oil drilling and fracking for gas—is destroying our environment and speeding climate change.
But with President Obama’s recent announcement of his Climate Action Plan, we have a unique opportunity RIGHT NOW to take bold action in the fight against climate change and extreme energy production.
This is the moment you and I have been working for...but the coal, oil, and gas industries are powerful opponents who will stop at nothing to preserve their polluting and destructive ways.
Drilling for oil in the Arctic Ocean, fracking for gas across our public lands, blasting the tops off mountains to get at thin seams of coal, and importing dirty, carbon-intensive oil from Canada’s tar sands are destroying our cherished landscapes and ecosystems, and driving climate change to even more destructive levels.
In a warming and increasingly fragile world, this extreme energy production is exactly what we don’t need. But we are up against powerful Dirty Energy giants who are fighting hard to preserve destructive practices that belong in the past.
And with a zealously anti-environment House of Representatives often siding with the fossil fuel industries, we are in dangerous territory when it comes to protecting the environment.
You and I have seen the damaging effects of extreme energy production on our cherished landscapes, wildlife, and communities. In the last two years, I have personally visited oil-slicked marshes along the Louisiana coast after the Deepwater Horizon blowout; met with Pennsylvanians and Coloradans whose communities are under assault in the fracking boom; toured the Alaskan Arctic threatened by onshore and offshore oil development; and shared the outrage of West Virginians who suffer from the impacts of mountaintop removal coal mining.
And one thing I am sure of: this extreme energy production is out of control and we MUST take bold action today for a sustainable energy future.
Will you help us fight back? With the President’s recent action to combat climate change, there has never been a better time to make a real difference for the landscapes and wildlife we cherish, the air and water we rely on, and the future stability of the climate and planet we all depend on.
Thank you for all that you do,

The Simplest of Things

Augureye
Somewhere around two thousand or so years ago an ascended master incarnated on earth.  He brought with him just a single teaching: “Love One Another.”  Ever since we have been killing one another over how he said it…after of course, killing the messenger.
Is it just me, or doesn’t it seem like we should have come a bit farther along the evolutionary path by now.

Am I the only, or last person who thinks we are destined for something far greater than perpetual warfare?Love One Another, seems fairly simple and straightforward to me;  Zero distortion.  It is a message and teaching that can only lead to unity consciousness, and the acknowledgement of the divine within us all.

Everyone alive wants to give and receive love, it’s a basic human design feature; we’re hardwired for it.  To be sure, the desire nature in some is perverted and anti-social, breeding psychopathic personality traits; and those are always the ones who seem to slime their way into power and authority.  Why do you suppose that is?  Why do we permit & support this?

We have ignored, belittled, and devalued the concept of “Love One Another” to a point where it is considered the favored mindset for hippies, new agers and small children.  Greed, perversion, and psychopathic lust for power have done all they can to kill this message, and yet it persists. Timeless.
Every so often another messenger sprouts up, and begins the teaching anew ~ “Love One Another” ~ such a simple thing, and yet we continue to struggle with it at every turn as if it was calculus or algebra.  Just in my lifetime alone, there have been several messengers, and we killed them all for trying to teach love to a warlike race.

But, are we really a warlike race by nature, or have we been genetically altered to accentuate our more primeval aggressive tendencies.   Maybe that is why we seem to encounter so very many truly angry people.  Maybe on some level we remember that this is not who we are, that someone, or something has long ago hijacked our original destiny and imposed one of their design.  That will get you some latent aggravation.

The year I was born they killed the messenger Gandhi for teaching love, non-violence and forgiveness.  No matter how many messengers we allow to be killed it seems we have yet to learn that you cannot kill an idea.  “They” certainly permit many contrary points of view to exist without killing those bearing the message; so why do they seem to fear a simple thing like Love One Another?
Twenty years after Gandhi, the messenger Martin was gunned down in broad daylight, as if the sheer brutality of that act could silence the message somehow.  His sin was not only teaching us tolerance and love for each other, but also how to resist, and overcome.  He had to go, of course, yet his message remains in the hearts and minds of millions.

Why do we continue to tolerate those who oppose this simple yet powerful teaching; Love One Another.  Could it be that within this simple message is the power to transform humanity to once again be in harmony with all that is?  Makes you wonder.

There was yet another messenger emerging from Martin’s time who captured so many hearts & minds with his message of All You Need is Love, that he of course had to be killed, and even though his music is banned across many airwaves, the message lives on even now.   Love is All You Need.  We sure miss you John.

What persistent evil is this among us that wishes this message silenced?  Why do we always look the other way as the very best of us are gunned down for spreading the concept of Love One Another?  Perhaps many have forgotten, but I haven’t…This is not who we are!  It is, however, who we have been turned into.

How many more prophets & messengers must die before we rise up as ONE and put a stop to it for all time.  We can, you know…anytime we really want to badly enough.  When the pain of remaining the same is no longer tolerable; we will change.  There is no law saying we must wait that long; in fact just now would be a most excellent time to make the change.

We’ve been sold a “a bill of goods” as the saying goes.  We have bought into the great shining lie of separation, limitation; and consensus reality.  We have been taught to let others do our thinking for us because we somehow lack the ability for self determination.  Our egos have succumbed to the constant barrage of marketing, that we “aren’t good enough” no matter what we do.

It has always baffled me that as persistent as they are at killing every messenger who teaches Love One Another, they sure don’t mind having all those churches of various denominations around.  I wonder often about that.  Maybe the churches aren’t teaching us to Love One Another anymore.  I wonder about that as well.

Why do we humans continue to have so much trouble embracing the concept of unconditional love?  It would seem to be the simplest of things to understand, and practice.  Along with separation we’ve been conditioned to embrace the “there isn’t enough for everyone” mentality, which validates & perpetuates the need for competition, and adversity.  We have been programmed, conditioned and reinforced to see others as somehow less important than ourselves, instead of seeing them as equal sovereign souls.  That is the path of separation.

Separation has an ugly sister, her name is Resentment, and she knows how to dissolve the strongest of emotional bonds.  They’re a ‘tag-team’ kind of dynamic duo and between them they have laid waste to the human psyche.  These sisters have most of humanity feeling alone and hateful at a time we are supposed to be celebrating “The mind’s true liberation” on the path of unity.  Resentment has crept into the very fiber of our being, and you can smell her stringent perfume simply everywhere.
When we truly begin to Love One Another unconditionally we first see that “I’m another you ~ You’re another me.”  Then, in the fullness of time we see at last there is no distinction, and that we are indeed, all one.  This then, is the path of unity.

I guess in hindsight they had to kill John and Martin, because they were the vanguard of the movement that promised to put us all on the path of unity.  And then, they killed that movement as well, for even daring to make such an absurd promise.  How’s that for tolerance?

If we are a race cut off from our destiny, then we have also been cut off from knowing our true past.  Why is so much effort put into obscuring the past and re-writing history?  What is it they are afraid we will discover?  For thousands of years the elite have promised better lives for us all, and for thousands of years they have given us only intolerance, oppression and intimidation…and death to anyone who dares teach the doctrine of Love One Another.

Does it seem at all strange to you that here at the dawn of the Aquarian age our self appointed rulers are making policy decisions with Bronze age thinking?  Think back to the life you thought you were going to have.  How close is all this to that image in your mind?  This isn’t what it’s supposed to be like, and this is not who we are!

We have to educate ourselves to know who we are.  That's what I mean when I say 'teach the children'
 Eddie Benton-Bamai, OBJIBWAY

It is only by knowing ourselves that we can get in touch with our power.  It is said, "Tell me what you know about yourself and I will tell you what you know about God.  Tell me what you know about God and I will tell what you know about know about yourself."  As we increase knoweldge of ourselves, as we choose to grow spiritually, as we clean up our act, then we can teach our children......my Creator, my source:   you have said "know thyself."  Today let me see the wisdom of this truth.  Give me Your insight of myself.

I am always walking the talk and most people can see it.  Today, help me and guide me on the  RED ROAD.  Today I intend to focus on.................(your name here)

Barbaric united states advocates torture.

Seems I have made some friends uncomfortable and have attacked, I must have afflicted some very comfortable people democrap and repugnicon . Well I got friends in the highest place that will make a way for me. I don't have time to edit my stories so I am just posting most word for word. I stand by my content and for every one I post I have 10 stories waiting to be posted and I have other places and friends that will post for me if I cannot, my resolve is now even stronger to the get the word out about the hypocrisy. Now that the u.s. advocates torture:  instead of a simple beheading of our troops captured by the enemy, our soldiers will also be tortured first unmercifully before death, and by our silence, we as Americans are really the ones doing the torture.

The path we are on is mass suicide. We send our youths to blow up foreign countries, protect their borders and leave ours wide open. While the rest of the world grows to hate us for the untold damage/murder we do. The U.S. citizen is left at the mercy of dangers too numerous to list in this venue. Political correctness is doing its job; it is murdering Western civilization. Immoral relativism is winning … we are headed back to the jungle with little resistance because of the loss of our founding concepts. The Enlightenment has been snuffed, which means the death of individual freedom. The Third World will engulf us as the barbarians did Rome.

No one will gain except the elite few who hold the reins of power, and history repeats itself over and over, always to the detriment of individual life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our nation had its chance and squandered it; pity the young and those to come.

The dissociation of our leadership is seditious treasonous and the out right theft of my country...this betrayal has not gone unnoticed.........we are waking-up to truth, we are legion, we do not forgive and we do not forget.......expect us.
