My op-ed

Two chickehawks in the bush are better than....one in the whitehouse

Demagogue,
n (plural dem·a·gogues) 1. emotive dictator: a political leader who gains power by appealing to people's emotions and prejudices rather than their rationality.

I know they don't put pictures in the dictionary but if they did republicans and democrats faces would be next to this word. We have misunderstood, misread, misplanned and mismanaged our honorable intentions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, entire south America, Cuba...... with an arrogant self-delusion reminiscent of Vietnam. I happen to believe that by 2012, this country is going to be ready for some people to talk very clearly, plainly — not frighten them, not demagogue them, but say it straight, say it honest. This is a ping-pong game with American livesand those innocent ones flee or killed to make way for this economically manufactured war machine.

These young men and women that we deploy on others sovereign soil that possess valuable natural and human resources(american corporate interest, not u.s. citizens interest),  are not beans. They're real lives. And we better be damn sure we know what we're doing, all of us, especially after we put 22,000 more Americans into that grinder. Many of those who want to rush this country into war and think it would be so quick and easy don't know anything about war. They come at it from an intellectual perspective, versus having sat in jungles or foxholes and watched their friends get their heads blown off.

Chickenhawk(n, pronounced chi-ken-shit): used in the u s to criticize a politician, bureaucrat, or commentator who strongly supports a war or other military action, but has never personally been in a war, especially if that person is perceived to have actively avoided military service when of draft age.

We know who the chicken hawks are. They talk tough on national defense and military issues and cast aspersions on others, When it was their turn to serve where were they? AWOL, that's where they were...the lead chickenhawk…. the GOP presidential-vice nominess  of the United States. President Obama.

There is nothing brave, resolute, nor virtuous about advocating military action from afar while suffering personally no costs and/or consequences. It is, in fact, a very easy argument to make from afar when one does not have any combat experience. When the U.S. military has difficulties in recruiting soldiers and Marines (like today) the refusal of prominent war supporters even to encourage their eligible relatives and friends, their circles of influence, to consider volunteering for military service, calls into question their integrity. If the war is so important, why are only "other people" actually fighting it? George W. Bush and obama has helped those who have most, hurt those who have least and ignored everyone in between. The mark of leadership is not to stand up when everybody is standing, but rather to actually stand up when no one else is standing.

I have to honestly admit that I am ashamed at the behavior of Americas top leadership. Maybe I am paranoid, but I don't feel too comfortable exercising my constitutional first amendment right of free speech by criticizing the chickenhawks in our government. Afraid five masked men may burst into my home, handcuff me, put a black hood over my head, whisk me off to the airport, put me on a plane bound for a Turkish prison never to be heard from again.

A special thanks to sen. Chuck Hagel and general Wesley Clark for their contributions to this blog today….so, g-men, if you come after me, be sure and get the senator and general too, be nice to have intelligent company since I don't associate with chicken shh….uh hawks.

Volunteers today, are recruited from a vast poll of poverty born out of economic necessity, patriotism is limited to the appeal of being part of a team, not the security of a nation, especially from a nation that needs protection from our own lawmakers and enforcers ie the government.  If you haven't noticed the jack-booted along with the brown or black shirted here, in every state, you are not looking and conditioned to filter out and not think about all the noise in our visual and audio environment......if the American  stormtroopers here in the states turn on our own people, spraying pepper, clubbing and arresting those exercising the free speech right to redress the government to have majority popular issues resolved;  just think what is being done to those countries America is occupying, unreported because of the dead journalist syndrome, cause truth reporting blacklists; deaths.totaling millions in the last ten years.  State writes the history feeding propaganda, foisting insane polices, defies rational behavior, and insults the collectives intelligence on a macro level.

Post script, I am a Vietnam-era vet 1975-1981, infantry scout 11D-64c, 1/9 air cav. First cavalry division,  2nd infantry division(mec) 11c,1/31 combat support, 4th armor division 11er8 4/40 armor(combat support) I was ready to bleed, to die for my country if that is what it took, unlike who? And, oh yes, when did we start measuring character with dollars in place of deeds? I missed that civics class.

Anti-blasphemy laws

Dear friends,

Pakistan Blasphemy Charge

In 48 hours, my young daughter will appear before a court in Pakistan, under blasphemy laws that carry the death sentence. My innocent girl has struggled her whole life with mental disability -- and shouldn't be punished. I ask you to help save my daughter. Sign this petition to President Zardari to support my call for protection for those from religious minorities:

Last week an enraged crowd threatened to burn my daughter alive, and in 48 hours a judge will decide whether she goes free or stays in jail. Rimsha is a minor with mental disabilities and often isn't in control of her actions. Yet local police here in Pakistan have charged her with desecrating the Koran, and we are afraid for her life.

Right now she is being held in a maximum-security jail, and in hours, she will face the court under Pakistan's anti-blasphemy laws, which can carry the death sentence. We are a poor Christian family witnessing mob fury over my daughter's case, and many other families have faced similar intimidation forcing them to either flee or live in fear. But the international attention on Rimsha’s case has emboldened Pakistani Muslim leaders to speak out against this injustice and forced President Zardari's attention.

Please help me keep up the global outcry on my daughter's case. I urge you to sign my petition to President Zardari to save Rimsha and demand protection for us and other vulnerable minority families. Avaaz will share this campaign with local and international media, watched carefully by all the politicians here:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/pakistan_save_my_daughter/?bNxfadb&v=17441

An angry mob demanded the arrest of my daughter after a local imam started inciting people against her, claiming she had desecrated the Koran. Some then threatened to kill her and burn down the houses of Christians in our community. I pray that at her hearing on Saturday, the case against her is dismissed and she can come back to live with us.

Our family is in grave danger, as even talking about the blasphemy laws in Pakistan can be deadly -- last year the Pakistani Minister for Minority Affairs was killed after asking for the removal of the death penalty for committing blasphemy. It's such a sensitive situation that many of our Christian neighbours from our Islamabad slum have had to flee their homes.

We respect the religious rights of others. We simply hope for the safety of our daughter and our community and wish this had never happened. We are happy that the Ulema Council, an umbrella group of Muslim clerics and scholars here in Pakistan, spoke out, saying: "We don't want to see injustice done with anyone. We will work to end this climate of fear." With your help, we can not only free Rishma but make this incident the beginning of a greater understanding between communities in Pakistan. I ask you to sign this petition, and share it with your friends.

You can't lead the people if you don't love the people. You can't save the people if you don't serve the people. -- Cornel West

“Watch the Gov. Gary Johnson speech that has Ron Paul fans raving over the Johnson Presidential campaign.”

Friends,

This week, the Liberty Movement is at a critical juncture.

The Republican Establishment gathered in Tampa for its convention is doing two things:  Obviously, they are coronating their chosen nominee for President, Mitt Romney – who promises to deliver to America a continuation of big spending, big government, and war.

But while the coronation of Mitt Romney takes place on the stage, the Republican are trying to shut down Liberty at their convention and in their party.

As reported in the New York Times, “Delegates from Nevada tried to nominate Mr. Paul from the floor, submitting petitions from their own state as well as Minnesota, Maine, Iowa, Oregon, Alaska and the Virgin Islands. That should have done the trick: Rules require signatures from just five states. But the party changed the rules on the spot. Henceforth, delegates must gather petitions from eight states.”

At the invitation of supporters of Congressman Ron Paul, Governor Johnson traveled to Tampa in the days before the Republican convention to address the P.A.U.L. Fest. Anyone who was in the room – and there were about 2,000 Liberty advocates in attendance – can assure you that the Liberty Movement is not to be denied!

They can change the rules to keep Dr. Paul from being nominated. They can send their Washington, DC, lawyers to Iowa and file challenges in Pennsylvania and Oklahoma to try to keep Gov. Johnson off the November ballot.  But they CANNOT silence the Liberty message that Governor Johnson and Congressman Paul are taking to every corner of America. It is a message that Governor Johnson will keep delivering at every opportunity –  with your help today.

When the media learned that Governor Johnson was in Tampa over the weekend, he didn’t have enough hours in the day to do all the interviews they requested.  Why the attention?  They had heard about Gov. Johnson’s reception at the P.A.U.L. Fest – and they were talking to Republican delegates who are saying Congressman Paul’s treatment at the convention is causing them to take a close look at Governor Gary Johnson.

We MUST seize the momentum this week’s events have created.  We have a few short weeks to reach millions of Americans via email, advertising, phone calls and social media.  When those voters face the reality that the Republicans and Democrats are offering them Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, they will be looking for the choice Gov. Johnson provides – and they need to hear from us.  Your contribution today atwww.garyjohnson2012.com will make that possible.

Please go to www.garyjohnson2012.com and ensure that the message of Liberty continues to spread.  Never before has the opportunity been so great.  Your contribution is the key to grabbing that opportunity.

Thank you for your friendship to Gov. Johnson, and your support.  It is happening!

Ron Nielson
Senior Adviser

P.S.  Don’t forget.  Right now, we are fighting legal battles all across the nation to fulfill Gov. Johnson’s pledge to be on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Your contribution will help us win!

New York Times reporter leaked colleague's column to the CIA

When The New York Times took on Barack Obama in an op-ed last year, the paper called out the president for relying on Hollywood to help boost his image — only, however, after delivering a draft of the diatribe to the CIA before firing up the presses.

Just 12 months after Times columnist Maureen Dowd drew up an op-ed attacking US President Obama and his administration, an email has been unearthed that suggests that the somewhat scathing opinion piece was not published without the involvement of America’s top-secret intelligence community. Judicial Watch has obtained emails between New York Times reporter Mark Mazzetti and a CIA spokesperson dated last year that shows that even one of the nation’s more liberal — and arguably reputable — resources for news was weary of coming down on the commander-in-chief, and specifically his office’s ties with America’s spy sector.

In her August 6, 2011 column, ‘Downgrade Blues,’ Dowd dissects the president’s first term up to that point, reveling in Obama’s inability to follow through with the campaign promises he pushed on voters before the 2008 election.

“Barack Obama blazed like Luke Skywalker in 2008, but he never learned to channel the Force. And now the Tea Party has run off with his light saber,” Dowd writes in one paragraph. “The dissonance of his promise and his reality is jarring.”

Elsewhere, Dowd attacks the White House for working hand-in-hand with movie producers to help research "Zero Dark Thirty," the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow-Mark Boal flick about the May 2011 raid on Osama bin Laden’s Pakistani compound that left the former al-Qaeda leader dead.

“The moviemakers are getting top-level access to the most classified mission in history from an administration that has tried to throw more people in jail for leaking classified information than the Bush administration,” Dowd writes. “ It was clear that the White House had outsourced the job of manning up the president’s image to Hollywood when Boal got welcomed to the upper echelons of the White House and the Pentagon and showed up recently — to the surprise of some military officers — at a CIA ceremony celebrating the hero Seals.”

Now it’s been discovered that, even before Dowd’s final draft was published in the Times, Mazzetti made sure a copy was sent to a CIA spokeswoman named Marie Harf.

In an email dated August 5, 2011, Mazzetti forwards a copy of the op-ed before it was published, adding, “this didn’t come from me… and please delete after you read.See, nothing to worry about!”
Other emails obtained by Judicial Watch shine more light onto just how updated Hollywood was kept with the bin Laden raid details that the American public were not privy to. In one correspondence, then Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Doug Wilson writes to Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Benjamin Rhodes that the film’s producers were being brought up to snuff with insider CIA info with the “full knowledge and full approval/support” of Leon Panetta, who at the time headed the agency.

In another internal email, Harf acknowledges that both Boal and Bigelow had worked closely with personnel that were directly involved in the raid, including the translator that was on the scene
“These new documents provide more backing to the serious charge that the Obama administration played fast and loose with national security information to help Hollywood filmmakers,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton says of the emails. “No wonder we’ve had to fight one year of stonewalling from the administration. These new documents show there is no doubt that Obama White House was intensely interested in this film that was set to portray President Obama as ‘gutsy.’”

New York Times Managing Editor Dean Baquet has downplayed the discovery of the emails, telling POLITICO that the truth to the matter isn’t as rough as reporters are making it seem.

"I know the circumstances, and if you knew everything that's going on, you'd know it's much ado about nothing," Baquet says. "I can't go into in detail. But I'm confident after talking to Mark that it's much ado about nothing."

"The optics aren't what they look like," he continues. "I've talked to Mark, I know the circumstance [sic], and given what I know, it's much ado about nothing."

Times spokesperson Eileen Murphy has since issued a statement as well. “Last August, Maureen Dowd asked Mark Mazzetti to help check a fact for her column. In the course of doing so, he sent the entire column to a CIA spokeswoman shortly before her deadline. He did this without the knowledge of Ms. Dowd. This action was a mistake that is not consistent with New York Times standards,” Murphy writes.

Dear MoveOn Member,

Polls show that our efforts to redefine Mitt Romney as the candidate of the 1% have been effective, but at this week's Republican Convention, Mitt's got one more chance to re-introduce himself to the country.1 He's running a three-day advertising campaign, with prime time media coverage, to convince voters that he's actually concerned about the average citizen.
But that's a lie we're not going to let him tell.
This Thursday, we're releasing "The Man from Bloomfield Hills," a hilarious mini-doc based on the true story of Mitt's hardscrabble upbringing in one of the wealthiest towns in the U.S. The "mockumentary" is in the style of other candidate biographies shown at conventions, and is told from the perspective of the people who know Mitt best, including his wife Ann Romney.
To celebrate the release, and to coincide with Romney's acceptance of the Republican nomination, we're having an online watch party Thursday evening. Will you watch with us? Click here to view the trailer and RSVP for the online watch party.

Thanks

Framing the issues

"The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods." -H. L. Mencken

- (1880-1956) American Journalist

"The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe." - -- John Walter Wayland - 1899
