There is but one coward on earth, and that is the coward that dare not know.

There is always a certain glamour about the idea of a nation rising up to crush an evil simply because it is wrong. Unfortunately, this can seldom be realized in real life; for the very existence of the evil usually argues a moral weakness in the very place where extraordinary moral strength is called for.

How shall Integrity face Oppression? What shall Honesty do in the face of Deception, Decency in the face of Insult, Self-Defense before Blows? How shall Desert and Accomplishment meet Despising, Detraction, and Lies? What shall Virtue do to meet Brute Force? There are so many answers and so contradictory; and such differences for those on the one hand who meet questions similar to this once a year or once a decade, and those who face them hourly and daily.

Today the package of mandatory spending cuts known as the "sequester" takes effect. There's just one word for the impact on millions of Americans: devastating.1

  • 373,000 seriously mentally ill people are losing care.
  • 70,000 kids are getting kicked out of Head Start.
  • 100,000 formerly homeless people will soon be back on the streets.

This is madness. The Tea Party and austerity-obsessed billionaires have finally gone too far—they're holding kids and poor families hostage to force radical benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare and more. Dozens of MoveOn members have started petitions to stop these cuts—and thousands more around the country are asking how to stop the austerity lies once and for all.

Congress and the media are watching to see if the public will swallow the most savage budget cuts in a generation—and an outpouring of constituent anger can change the political calculus and end the politics of austerity once and for all. So MoveOn members are going to congressional offices TODAY at noon—and throughout the day, with an urgent message: Cancel the sequester.

Your closest office is at:
431 West Broadway
Muskogee, OK 74401

Phone: 918-687-2533
Can you drop by Rep. Markwayne Mullin's office in Muskogee today (on Friday) at noon or later with other MoveOn members to say, simply, cancel the sequester?
This is coming together quickly, as it's becoming clear that Congress is really going to let these cuts go into effect—so you don't need to prepare anything. We'll give you a letter to download and deliver to your Member of Congress, and you can wear blue to identify other MoveOn members who are there.
Let's make this the moment that the media and history books understand as the turning point in the Tea Party's attack on our government as a force for good in people's lives.
Thanks for all you do.

On 6 February 2008, Ulu Masen became the first REDD project to be validated under the Climate Community and Biodiversity Standards. Last month, five years later, it became the first REDD project to lose its CCB validation status. Today, the Ulu Masen REDD project is at a complete standstill. “Ulu Masen is like a dream. Friends,
If you’ve been listening to the politicians and the national media for the past several weeks, you know that the budget sequester spending “cuts” President Obama and Congress came up with -- as opposed to actually coming up with a budget -- are taking effect today and may end life as we know it.
Planes will fall from the sky, our military will be dismantled, children will go hungry, and prisons will be emptied.
What a bunch of nonsense!  Even with these massive “cuts”, the federal government will spend more money in 2013 than it did in 2012.  ONLY in Washington does that constitute a cut.
Everything you need to know about the lies the White House, the media and, yes, many Republicans have been spreading about the sequester is summed up in this Reuters headline this morning: “U.S. stares down start of steep automatic budget cuts”.
Let’s be clear.  There are NO cuts.  There are only tiny reductions in the amount by which federal spending would otherwise grow this year.  And those reductions only apply to the roughly one-third of government spending that is “discretionary”.  It doesn’t include the other two-thirds made up of entitlements and interest on $16 trillion of debt.
As I point out in this op-ed in today’s Washington Times, if we eliminated ALL so called “discretionary” spending, the federal budget might almost be balanced.
Does that brutal truth mean the budget can’t be balanced?  Of course not.  But what it DOES mean is that the politicians are lying when they talk about reducing spending without dealing with entitlements like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. It can’t be done, and the hysteria over the sequester proves it.  THAT is the moral of this story.
The Our America Initiative exists to tell these truths, and to mobilize Americans who see these absurd political games for what they are.  If you agree with me that it’s time for a healthy dose of not just truth, but action, I hope you will join us.  Your contribution at will allow us to take the message of REAL spending reduction, economic freedom and liberty to the airwaves, to the Internet, and to events across the country.
Being ever the optimist, I actually believe the sun WILL rise tomorrow -- despite the sequester. In fact, if the government is even a tiny bit smaller than it would be otherwise, maybe the sun will be a little brighter, and maybe we will be a little bit more free.
Thanks, as always, for your friendship and support for liberty!
