Excellent news from Malvinas, Argentina! The Chamber of Labor has
issued a court ruling today upholding an injunction that was filed in
September 2012 by Malvinas Lucha por la Vida effectively paralyzing
construction on the new Monsanto plant.
The Chamber of Labor ruled
that Monsanto must suspend all construction operations on the new plant
until the results of the environmental impact study are reviewed and
also called for a referendum to see if local inhabitants are in favor or
against the Monsanto venture. Today’s court ruling declared the ongoing
construction of the new GMO seed plant unconstitutional.

- In a victory for the GMO
Free movement in Australia the Tasmanian Government announced Thursday
that it has extended the state’s ban on genetically modified crops and
animals indefinitely.
Tasmania, the only state in
Australia that has a blanket ban on GM crops, has been GMO free since
2001. However the moratorium was set to end in November 2014.
Following a very clear
consultation process with local farming and environmental groups, the
Tasmanian government decided to announce Thursday that it would continue
to protect Tasmania’s clean and green brand by extending the ban
indefinitely.

- Worldwide there has been a massive increase in cancers of all kinds since 1945.On Monday July 16th 1945 in Alamogordo, Mexico the first ever atomic bomb was tested. The bomb was called Trinity.
By 1960 there wasn’t a
single place on Earth left untouched by these tests. Every soil sample,
every water sample and even every polar ice cap sample, arctic and
antarctic, were contaminated…and there was still 50 years more testing
to go to bring us to the present day, and the last test conducted by
North Korea in 2013.

In a protest action that was
no exception to the growing trend of creative Palestinian popular
resistance, two groups – one from Jerusalem and one from Ramallah –
descended upon the Israeli military checkpoint near the small village of
Hizma. Their plan: to have a wedding at the checkpoint.
The bride came from
Jerusalem, the groom from Ramallah. The two groups were barred from
uniting and the wedding never took place.
This
action was designed to highlight Israel’s prevention of marriages
between Palestinians living within the West Bank with those living in
Jerusalem. It is illegal under Israeli law for any West Bank,
non-Israeli ID holding, Palestinian to join his or her spouse in
Jerusalem or inside the Green Line.
