This book breaks the mathematical spell of mainstream economics and infuses it with some much-needed improvisational jazz. It features thinkers, ideas and models – bionomics, psychonomics, degrowth – that have been purged from the leading econ departments across the Western world.
Meme Wars will be launched November 13 by Seven Stories Press in the US, Random House in Canada, Penguin in the UK, and Reimann in Germany.
We hope it riles up students and catalyzes a revolt against the suicidal formalism they are currently being taught. A number of such campus revolts – especially at Harvard, University of Paris, Oxford, Cambridge, Chicago – could trigger a larger uprising against the keepers of global economic orthodoxy.
Students! Start asking your profs: How do you measure progress? How does climate change factor into our study of economics? Is economic progress killing the planet? Is economics even an exact science?
Culture Jammers! Converge upon Kickitover.org, download a poster, print it, post it in the corridors of your campus and beyond. With a little luck, we'll ignite a raging meme war not just on campus, but across the entire mindscape …
… Let's pull off the ultimate jam for the fate of humanity … A paradigm shift in the theoretical foundations of economic science!

DENVER (AP) - Hit the slopes - and then a bong?
Marijuana legalization votes this week in Colorado and Washington state don't just set up an epic state-federal showdown on drug law for residents. The measures also open the door for marijuana tourism.
Both measures make marijuana possession in small amounts OK for all adults over 21. The measures affect not just state residents but visitors, too. Tourists may not be able to pack their bowls along with their bags, but as long as out-of-state tourists purchase and use the drug while in Colorado or Washington, they wouldn't violate the marijuana measures.
That's assuming the recreational marijuana measures take effect at all. That was very much in doubt Friday as the states awaited word on possible marijuana lawsuits from the federal government.

kosmicdebris...... Omitted from narrative AP neglected the fact that 'tax $ on cannibals generated targeted towards education, higher education...grad school research and and development, advanced studies for viable hemp utility, the textile industry, cheap canvas, foot ware, rope...hemp oil, medical use. Perhaps funding other social problems, maybe civic arm of infrastructure maintenance, green conservation, sustainable perma-culture.....the list goes on.........
more jobs, less cops and less resources (cops now get to keep sized cash, autos, real property to fund and suppress the hemp industry and many other vices deemed criminal ) for local torts, that breed black-markets arm of corruption, legalizing has potential ending gridlock and expense the courts are absorbing to the tune of public tax expenses as well as jail, probation, privation of prisons housing nonviolent offenders.....criminal collages.... islands of isolation, exposing the innocent youth that lack educational opportunities to dubious characters...kids to criminal cycle currently foisted via Federal prohibition trumps states issues. Education not Probation.
On the recreational side tourism is third on the list of positive, rational alternatives....decriminalization has finally reached national debate on mainstream topics forcing media collective to address, as legitimate, public discourse thanks to state initiatives posing questions directly to the people's will right now....effectively leap frogging do-nothing congressional, squelching reps, judicial activist judges, confronting angry white guys. Next up WARS and Banking, GMO's, Climate change, global conservation and sustainable energy policy......many social issues changing and challenging the status quo using science and rational thought with empirical knowledge ....common sense stuff.............kosmicdebris
